Bose Institute, founded in 1917 by the eminent scientist Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose, is one of India’s oldest and premier research institutes, which currently runs as an autonomous institute under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. It started its journey in its ‘Main Campus’ located at Rajabazar in central Kolkata, whereas currently its primary functional campus is its Unified Academic Campus, located at Sector V, Bidhannagar, in East Kolkata. Currently, there are seven campuses of the Bose Institute across West Bengal. It was established with the vision of promoting interdisciplinary research in science, and since its inception, over the years, the institute has delivered pioneering work in Plant Physiology, Physics, Chemistry, and Biophysics. Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose himself made ground-breaking contributions in these fields. Over the last few decades, Bose Institute has expanded its research scope to include Biochemistry, Structural Biology, Plant Sciences, Molecular and Cell Biology, Microbiology, Environmental Science, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, and maintains a strong emphasis on both basic and applied research. The institute plays a significant role in nurturing young scientists through its academic programs, contributing meaningfully to India's scientific and technological progress.
