Bose Institute was set up in 1917 by Sir JC Bose, the founder of modern science in the Indian subcontinent. It is Asia's first modern research centre devoted to interdisciplinary research since its inception and bears a century old established tradition of research excellence. On our centenary, we are preparing to relocate our laboratories spread across our different campuses in the city to our new, state of the art unified campus. This is located in Sector V, Salt Lake and is in its final stage of construction. We seek applications from exceptionally bright and motivated candidates with a clearly proven and established record of independent, high quality research and commitment to teaching primarily for the position of Assistant Professor. We particularly welcome candidates whose research is aligned with our present research interests as well as those working in cutting-edge interdisciplinary research areas. Our recent research has centred around the following programmes: (i) basic and applied microbiology, (ii) basic and applied problems in physical and environmental sciences, (iii) bioinformatics and computational biology, (iv) improvement of plants: biotechnological, genomic and proteomic approaches, (v) molecular medicine, (vi) protein structure, function and engineering, and, (vii) systems biology. On our centenary, we have launched two additional futuristic programmes themed around: (i) complex systems, and, (ii) systems and synthetic biology. Faculty can participate in more than one programme but are affiliated to one of the following departments/divisions: (i) biochemistry, (ii) biophysics, (iii) chemistry, (iv) microbiology, (v) molecular medicine, (vi) physics, and, (vii) plant biology. The institute has good instrumentation facilities and infrastructure for research. We have an established Ph.D. programme and a vibrant integrated-Ph.D. programme. We are committed to provide course work of the highest quality to our research scholars. Prospective candidates must have a doctoral degree in physical, chemical or biological sciences with a very good academic record throughout and possess four years of postdoctoral research experience. Younger candidates will be strongly preferred. The criteria for age and experience may be relaxed slightly for exceptional candidates. The remuneration of Assistant Professor is in Pay Band III (15600-39100) with grade pay of 7600 plus allowances similar to other prestigious research centres in India. We will provide adequate research start-up grants. In addition, we support participation in international conferences. The faculty and their family are also covered by a health service scheme, upon contribution of a nominal amount. There is no accommodation on campus and House Rent Allowance (HRA) is provided as per rules. As part of the search process, all faculty applicants are required to deliver a talk at the Institute at their earliest convenience. The link for online application is given above. You will need to upload PDF of (i) your updated CV containing address, phone number and email of at least four referees, (ii) research statement (including but not limited to details of past research experience), and, (iii) future research plans as well as a passport photo (JPG file < 100 kB). |
